Location background

Prince’s Gardens Preparatory School is a new independent school for boys and girls, aged 3-11, in the heart of Kensington and just a stone’s throw from Hyde Park.

Set within four, six-storey Grade II Listed mid-Victorian townhouses, the project provided an exacting challenge to provide a lighting solution for a state-of-the-art educational facility, while preserving the historical integrity of these important local landmarks.

Phi’s solution

Phi Lighting was approached by M & E Consultant, Jonathan Richards Associates (JRA), to design a fully compliant lighting design in this prestigious location. A strong working relationship had already been established between Phi and JRA as the two companies had worked together successfully on numerous other Cognita Schools projects across the UK.

To maintain the perfect balance between modernity and tradition, Phi proposed a highly innovative solution that cleverly combined Linear Suspended Momentum, Quo Downlights, Circular Suspended Who and Suspended Circular Whoop. The stunning result will hopefully inspire the children in their study and leisure.

“Jonathan Richard Associates utilised the services of Phi Lighting from concept design through to the full design and construction stage of the project. Phi were always approachable and able to assist with the technical aspects of the project and provide expert guidance with regard to bespoke designs for the lighting that suited this particular educational setting. We found Phi to be on hand in assisting promptly with any on site queries during the constructions stage. The final outcome in terms of client expectations, functionality and aesthetics of the lighting installation at Princes Gardens were well received by the whole design team.” Adam Bateman – Jonathan Richard Associates (Elec Consultant)
